China shifts towards an innovation-based country. It has become world's second largest economy and boasts the highest amount of patent applications. This shift brings along collaboration opportunities for start-ups and SMEs. VUB, IICB Incubator Zellik, Smart-hub Flemish Brabant and Innoviris Brussels join forces to help start-ups and SMEs from Brussel-Halle-Vilvoorde region to:

  1. Understand the Chinese cultural and business landscape through a set of seminars on relevant topics - an educational module.
  2. Explore the Chinese market with your own business case through hands-on experience - a practical module.

Four seminars covering relevant topics:

  • 06/06/19 - The Chinese landscape: culture, trends, opportunities, and internationalization.
  • 11/06/19 - Business models, entry strategies, (digital) marketing.
  • 17/06/19 - IP, due diligence, finding the right partner.
  • 24/06/19 - Testimonials, business cases + Networking event.

Confirmed speakers include Bart Horsten (Horsten International), Valentin de le Court (Daldewolf), Koen De Ridder (Unizo) Liang Sun (Generate), Stéphane Plamont (Université libre de Bruxelles), Ting Zheng (PLT Group), and the China Belgium Technology Center (CBTC)."

Seminars take place from 1PM till 5PM.

Is your startup or SME interested in exploring the Chinese market and in initiating long-term relationships with a Chinese partner? Send in your business case and benefit from:

  • Dissemination of your business case to Chinese investors, universities, government agencies, incubators, science parks, industries from different Chinese regions.
  • An individual case-by-case approach to find your Chinese partner.
  • Translation of your case to Chinese.
  • Tailored mentoring, meetings and follow-up with experts.

This practical module will take place through July - November 2019.


We welcome start-ups and SMEs from the broader Brussel-Halle-Vilvoorde region from all fields and disciplines who are interested in exploring the Chinese market.

We welcome high-tech, service-, and/or export-oriented organizations.

You will be invited to apply for the practical module!

Your organization did not participate in the educational seminars?

You will be able to apply for the practical module if you are able to show that similar knowledge has been acquired through prior experiences or other seminars.


Registration for the seminars is mandatory. Places are limited.

A call for applications will be launched once the seminars have started. Applicants will be asked to complete a description of their business case (specific interests towards China, projected Chinese partners, investment needs, motivations, prior experiences ...) to clarify their interests towards China.

Applications are subject to a review and selection procedure.

Meetings related to the practical module will be arranged on a case-by-case basis.


A registration fee of 50 euro is asked per organization (start-up or SME). This fee will grant your organization access to all seminars and to the practical module
